The rains and the coming back.

It rained! and I always love when it does. Everything looks washed clean and full of life. A rain is all it took for me to comeback from this dry spell I've been having (writing wise, on this blog). It rained and it rained too loudly for you to even get your thoughts in place. It was windy, the patter of the rain on the windows was making it difficult for me to even look out.

The rains are here, the rains bring respite, the rains bring hope. The dry summer heat has filled me (and everyone) with irritation, anger, a certain desperation and with the downpour today it looked like the wind and rain had taken all that away.

It started pouring at about 6 in the evening, I had just gotten back from work. I was a little agitated anyway because I was hungry and because some days are just so annoying. I just sat there in my big chair, eyes shut, thinking what I'm doing with myself. And just then, thunder, the light breeze had become a little charged and somewhere in my house a window made a loud thud as it hit the frame. I woke up!

I looked out and I thought it must be pouring, I was disappointed when I looked at the pale blue sky and the light brown dust being carried by the wind. I wanted to make myself a cup of coffee and simply retreat into my bed.

And then magic happened!

It started pouring, the rains were here. They were not the rains that I'd witnessed in the last few days, it was not light showers. These were rains, the hindi film romantic rain, the "barish me cham cham' dance tune rains, the 'peheli baarish' rains. This downpour reminded me of the Shubha Mudgal song ' Ab ke saawan'. It felt apropos. I was out (obviously)

The Leaves and the washed perspective on life!
Just then my overly concerned mother who knows if I do end up having a fever I will be a big cry baby! pointed out that I'm better off inside. But I decided to use the old "5 min sleep' bargain with her. "Yes Maa, 5 min" by this time I'm drenched. She knows there is no point in asking me to come in. But just because she is my mother, she chooses to ignore my countless pleas and demands that I get in that very second.  #Enter savior#

My brother just happened to enter at the end of my 5 min in the rain deadline, he suggests we go out for a walk in the rain! I happily obliged. By this time I had forgotten everything, I was IN THE MOMENT! That was a magical thing for me, considering that in the past few months I've been living in the past or in the future. Worrying, fretting, imagining. Now, there was none of that. No thoughts of the future, no grief from the past. I'm not suggesting it'll not comeback. But just then, it wasn't. If rains could cure the hurt, the worries, the troubles both imaginary and real, the monsoons would be considered anti depressants.

A few drops here, a reminder of a few drops there.

But something more wonderful happened, I was there, all ears. Wanting to make an attempt. I wanted to stop making an excuse for not doing things. The life in those leaves, the croaking of those frogs, the crickets, the gushing of the waters down the drain, the thunder, the lightning all of that was so full of positive energy!

I was transported back to a self where I was a hopeful teenager, full of zeal! I just wanted to do thing. Just do them! Speaking of being a teenager, I was reminded of making paper boats with my family and floating them, especially with my grandmother. Just one of those things you do because it is one of the things you can do!

My version of heaven!

Yes! While I am not exactly a believer of Heaven and Hell. I have however come to understand that there has to be a better place than this and we have to go there. It is my last hope. For putting up with the shit we do, for suffering each day, it is like being punished, so I believe that THIS is Hell and so as a consequence we will go to a better place. Pure hell does not have to be hot and fiery, the earth is a good enough place to be called hell, with the kind of life we lead, the people we deal with that all that. It is actually hilarious that people expect a worse place. But yes! We are free to imagine a better place.

So Dear Whoever Controls Heaven,

On the off chance that I get there (I am not immortal) I would like to present a version of heaven I like. No bright lights please. Absolutely no harps, dancers or music. You see I have an innate fear choreographed performances and loud music. Also, I am clearly influenced by the TV version of Heaven. Blame the upbringing, God! Also with reference to the music, the music will be genre based music. It would be really weird to hate the music in Heaven! There is no other place to go after that. Is there?

Other than that Dear Heaven controller type person must know that my version of the heaven is a little cold, I mean not freezing, but you know just like winters here. I wish there is a huge cackling fire and an eternal fountain of Chocolate and coffee. Please let the coffee be  bitter and the chocolate dark!

I love the idea of Utopia and what version of my heaven is complete without ladders? Ofcourse I will need ladders because there will be millions of books and eternity to read them! *You did not see that coming?*  My idea of heaven is a little skewed but you get it, no? But WTH! (Heaven)  No bright lights, just warm yellows, dingy, dusty even.and mostly quiet.

My inspiration for the post

I am given to understand that people in heaven wear all whites, but please can I come in my pajamas? Or jeans or shorts? Eternity in whites just sounds difficult. I will wear the same jeans forever. So my clothes and books are covered and so is my food. Since I can't die again i would like to get some junk food? Okay, I am being a little materialistic here... but but... You know how this is the "Happiest place"

I get that there are concerns about being indoors all the time, so can I please get me a beach? Lots of sunlight, no rains? also no rain forests for me. I can make peace with the no beaches. I would like for it rain indoors. And when it rains, I would like if there was a scrabble club of some sort. It would be amazing!

Finally it will have to have internet! super fast internet!! :)

The wanderer

Dear wanderer in my head,

You are the perfect embodiment of everything that is right with the world. Dear wanderer when you walk from one place to another, don’t you see myriad pictures? Hear thousands of voices? You are part of the chaos and yet, you find your silence. While you lie down under the shade of the tree, you seem to let the whole world go by; you wake up and see that nothing is the same. You do not fret that it has changed. You do not complain.

People look at you and imagine a million things, you don’t justify, and you don’t seek assistance. You know not where your life is headed and yet you seem to be at peace. You look at people and see right through them, yet you do not comment you have no critique; you have nothing but a faint registry of all these faces. May be on a sunny road where you might see these people again, they may not recognize you, you may not as well.

Dear wanderer in my head, I want to be not you, but like you. I want to find silence in this chaos and a little noise in this silence. I cannot commit to keeping quiet like you, but I’d like to try. I want to see each fleeting moment with a different perspective, to be able to see through all this multi-colored dimensions, to see through all these ideals. I want to see people without embellishment. Them for who they are. Me for who I am.

Dear crazy wanderer you find some space in my head because you are my imagination, I want the world to be like this. Much like you, I am not taking an aimless stroll through life, infact quite contrary. I am taking in as much as I can. I want to have no inhibitions, no fears of tomorrow, no visions of the future.

I know you are inspired by everything I see and everything I believe. Truly you are a bundle of every fear I have, thrown out of the window. You are an embodiment of every answer I have but too afraid to look at and inspect and introspect. I know if I sit down with you, you will tell me what I need to know. But like two travelers that never meet again, I will never sit by you because you have answers and I am too afraid to ask the questions.

Much love,
Reality Me!

Shopping list of the Soul

I want to have a job, A job I will love and respect.
I want to take a vacation, on my own
I want to write for a living, (No conditions at all)
I want to be read
I want to be inspired to do the right thing
I want to sleep every night knowing I have lived this day to the best of my abilty
I want to wake up knowing this day holds promise
I want to be reassured that life as we know will change and still everything will fall into place
I want to enjoy coffee at 3 in the morning and not be questioned for insanity
I want to walk aimlessely and still know im taking in something wonderful
I want the flowers in my garden to bloom
I want to not wear a facade of being sure.
I want to be able to talk to everyone I meet without questioning their intent
I want for it to be easy to forgive
I want for it to be easy to forget
I want for it to be easy to believe
I want for everything to be sorted
I want to restart my life at my will
I dont mind complexities. I want them to add meaning to life.
I want to be at peace with myself and love myself deeply to know that no matter how let down I feel, how badly I fail at being the best of me, there is still place in my heart to forgive myself and move on.

This is everything Ive want while i sleep this night. I dont think any of this will so much as come close to happening in the next few years, but 20 years from now when I look at this list I am hoping I'll have atleast a few things that I can strike off.

This is not a wishlist, this is 'a list'. In the middle of the night when I close my eyes and wonder what all this 'self help' is about, I want a reminder to tell me this self help is needed. That the realisation of what I truly want is important. This is the soul shopping list of the person they call Meghana.
