Eat your heart out! Fat is not the worst thing

I recently attended a book launch addressed by Rujuta Diwekar, oh it was wonderful. She made a lot of sense when she said exercize  is inexcusable, you need to work out; but then she told the crowd about something that caught my fancy, she said 'don't cut down on eating'. If you like something, eat it. Stop being guilty about what you've eaten.

She stressed on something called 'Emotional Eating' something that all of us go thrugh. Except we think it has to do with eating because you are sad, that's not what it is, eating emotionally should be a happy thing. If you eat more food because you are happy, then great! Why should more happiness be celebrated?

I love eating out. I love eating out by myself or with friends. I love making dinner plans. I cannot explain how or why it makes me happy to walk into a restaurant and order a meal and then quietly nibble on it while I read a book.

For birthday dinners and lunches, I like doing them outside.  The problem with eating at home is not only does it put too much pressure on someone who is cooking the meal, they hardly ever get to enjoy the conversation. With eating out, you get everyone at the table eating food they love. Nobody has to forgo their choice of a meal and that's pretty great.  (My mum always has to ignore her choice of food to accommodate mine)

I love eating out because I love food that tastes different. I know you're going to say "What different food can vegetarians eat?" truth is, there isn't. But it's nice to go out with family and friends.

I don't usually go to fancy places to eat, I find them too pretentious. I hate dressing up and going to these places, but on the days that I do, I really like them too. You're in your nice clothes and you're ordering pretentious portion of meals. It's a funny feeling, all of us must try. I remember saying this to a friend when she suggested a place "Please don't take me to a place where I have to eat before I go". A lot of these upscale places are like that. But sometimes, it's a good thing to have good things in life.

Apart from it being totally awesome. I wanted to participate in the challenge because I need to see if I can write everyday from 2 months in a row. And this time I'm doing the whole commenting, posting, reading and writing as well! So this 2 AM writer will have very little sleep and mostly lots of coffee!

"It's a good thing to tell yourself about the good things in life."

Cheers.

  1. I totally get that...I love food and don't really cut out anything. I reduce portion sizes but I exercise at least 5 times a week and pretty hardcore.

Amd I know what emotional eating is, sometimes even now when I am upset just good food can make me forget the whole world :)

  3. Food is my only vice. I love it, love to cook it, love new things, love it. I use food supplements to counteract any negative effects from what I eat! (i.e. Lecithin emulsifies fat!)

  4. I live in a place w/ few superb eating out options. Therefore, when I'm out of town, I love going to upscale restaurants. I recently had one of the best meals of my life in Portland. Over the holidays my husband and I visited New Orleans. One evening we had a progressive dinner: We visited five different restaurants and enjoyed one course at each. We walked to all the restaurants.

  5. I love eating out too and it's definitely easier than entertaining at home. Too bad it's so expensive here in Canada, so we don't do it all that often.

  10. Goodbye diets – hello food! Thanks for this. We love to go out to eat to, but if we are served big fancy plates made to look full with a lot of garnishing and little food, my husband gets crabby and we never go back. Still, we have our old favorites. He's most fond of buffets for obvious reasons. :-) I prefer getting served and not getting up to get it myself, but oh well. Compromise, right?

  15. I love food, but I love sweets a little too much. Then I decided I would cut back, more for my sake than anyone else. And, guess what? I haven't missed it much :) Probably to do with my age ;)

  17. Must say this post strikes a chord with me. I have always struggled with weight and have been pretty much on a diet (usually failing at a diet) non-stop for the past 10+ years. Recently, I decided to stop worrying about a "diet" and to pretty much eat what I wanted...and I've finally made some progress in losing weight. I discovered that it was my obsession in thinking and overthinking my eating...that led me to do a lot of my over-eating. I'm happier and a bit skinnier now. Of course I do need to add in that exercise but that's a discussion for another day. Enjoyed your post! Happy blogging...and eating! :-)
