2 PM naps and other good things about APRIL

So, I wanted to start of writing about the things that keep me happy, because I think

HaPPINEsS Is A BiG dEaL

Of the things that make me happy the first one is the month of 'April'. No, this doesn't have much to do with the challenge, rather to do with the month itself. April is the month that officially symbolizes 'Freedom'. I'm a sucker for independence. April is the month of sun soaked afternoons and mangoes at my grandmoms house, April is the month of wearing tiny cotton dresses that get dirty too quickly but get washed and dry just as quickly so my mother never has to know.

April is the month of no homework. April as a child was what made the whole slogging in school worth it. Hard work for 10 months that lead up to this glorious month of April where parents and students alike celebrate. Time for family holidays and some good old reading. Time for visiting the cousins and playing around. Time for some ah! cold candy. Time for me to not look guilty for not having studied (Not wanting to study was a HUGE part of my growing up)

As years began rolling, this girl grew up, holidays became more precious. Time with my cousins even more important. I was officially in love with the month that brought this to me. A month that was made for me, a month to pull pranks and joke around. To watch endless hours of cartoons and cycle around the colony because 'who cares'. My parents were more than happy to have me outside the house. My April included climbing up my neighbors mango tree and plucking mangoes, then quickly running to her kitchen and get some salt and chilly to go with out loot!  Ah. Bliss did I hear you say?

Till 2 years ago was when I had my last April break, I was volunteering with an NGO then, I was doing my internship and it was a holiday of sorts. I went to a lot of beautiful places. I slept each afternoon! (Oh Naps in April make life worth it)

This post is being written as a part of the A TO Z Challenge. My theme for the AtoZ Challenge can be read here. To know more about the AtoZ Challenge itself click here

Apart from it being totally awesome. I wanted to participate in the challenge because I need to see if I can write everyday from 2 months in a row. And this time I'm doing the whole commenting, posting, reading and writing as well! So this 2 AM writer will have very little sleep and mostly lots of coffee!

"It's a good thing to tell yourself about the good things in life."

Cheers.

  1. Some lovely memories of April here, loved reading about them. I too love April, my marriage anniversary is in this month and my son's birthday too. The summers in Delhi are unbearable, but I still love this glorious month.

  11. That was one happy post. I have so many similar April memories. My favourite part was that last line --- "It's a good thing to tell yourself about the good things in life." Such cool advice.

  14. April in Minnesota is much much different than where you are. Mother Nature is confused in April; she is indecisive on if she wants to be hot or cold. For instance, yesterday (March 31) it was 50°F and cloudy in the city I live, a blizzard 3 hours north and a tornado 2 hours west. Today I woke up and it was 20°F (but felt like 2°F) and it was snowing. By the end of the work day, it was about 30°F and sunny. April in MN is bipolar.

    Your memories are so sweet.

  19. I don't really like April, since it signifies the start of extreme heat and humidity that Kerala summers are notorious for. Yet, you've reminded me of the good stuff, especially the school holidays!!!
