Tell me a joke, I'll be your friend forever

My introduction to many people was ' she's a funny girl' and I truly pride myself in having a sense of humour about things. It's a no brainer that laughter makes you happy. I mean if I didn't include laughter, what else would I? I'm utterly serious when it comes to certain things, there's no fooling around, but most things in life, I can laugh about. Everybody loves a good joke and so do I. But what I feel more strongly about is the abilty to make other people laugh. I don't mean you have you tell someone a joke all the time, but the way you make them feel comfortable, that's what counts!

How do you make someone laugh? Nope it's tough. First of all, making someone laugh is the ability or at least the mental preparedness to make a fool of your self. Wit often backfires and even when it doesn't, being funny involves being vulnerable. Sometimes, jokes others crack may be something that don't fit your wavelength, pretty much like how yours may not with theirs. Of course, there is 'wavelength' and then there is just 'horrible humour'.

The next most important bit is the ability to laugh at yourself, I was someone who embarrasses easily, I will beat myself up over ridiculous things, but the one thing I concentrate on is letting me laugh at myself. Even on the most ridiculous things. I laugh at every time I misspell a word. I laugh when I fall (which is often), I laugh when I ask a stupid question. I laugh at myself because In all honesty, it's the best thing I've done for myself. I used to have this pent up 'embarrassing situation' list that went on in my head, when I laughed at them myself, I realised, hey! I don't have to carry that baggage any more. I can move on. I did. I feel lighter and so much better.

Anyone who can make me laugh is a winner. I cherish people who can make me giggle. I think of all the times when I was feeling like the world was coming down and my friend cheered me up and made me laugh till it hurt. Humour helps dispense all that tension that builds up. I remember going in for long meetings, serious stuff and wait for someone to say something funny. Oh! God bless those people who do. Not that we need to laugh about everything... wait... we do. I think there is a serious laughter deficit in our lives that we need to sort out.

Please read this post called Fish Jokes to note my absolute terrible sense of humour!
